Discover cutting-edge technology
The best refractive surgeon deserves the very finest tools. At Southern Eye Associates Dr. Rhodes is equipped with the Wavelight Allegretto laser. With innovative perfect pulse technology and a wider treatment area than other lasers, the Allegretto is highly recommended by surgeons across the country and has also received special recognition from the FDA.
Because of its unique combination of safety, precision, and speed, the Allegretto allows a quicker, more natural reshaping of the cornea while reducing the incidence of glare and halo after surgery. This provides you with a faster surgical process, easier recovery, and the highest level of optical correction possible.
The art and science of LASIK surgery
When light enters your eye, it is focused onto the retina by the cornea and the lens. The delicate balance between the cornea, the lens, and the distance to the retina is the equation that influences your vision. When the balance is perfect, you’ve got perfect vision. If, on the other hand, there are small imbalances in the equation, your vision is blurry. This is called refractive error.
Refractive error can result in nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Contact lenses or glasses do nothing to improve refractive error — they simply bend the light before it enters your eye. LASIK surgery, on the other hand, actually corrects refractive error by reshaping the cornea and adjusting the focal equation.
LASIK surgery is very quick and nearly painless. Dr. Rhodes begins by carefully opening the top layer of the cornea like a door, which provides access to the interior corneal tissue. Then, in a process that lasts less than a minute, he applies rapid, regular laser pulses to the cornea. These pulses reshape the cornea and correct the refractive error. The procedure is complete when the cornea’s top layer is gently moved back into position — in 20 minutes or less, it’s finished.
Quick recovery and dramatic improvement
Right after surgery your eyes will probably feel irritated, and your vision will be blurry. Both of these issues will clear up rapidly, but while you’re experiencing eye irritation, it’s very important not to rub your eyes. Rubbing can dislodge the top layer of the cornea which was moved during surgery — and this might require another surgery to repair.
After the first few days following your surgery, your eyes will feel better, and your vision will start to improve. By the end of the first week you’ll begin to experience a real difference in visual clarity. The benefits of your LASIK surgery will continue to grow over the next few months — like all of our patients in Temple, you’ll be far less dependent on glasses, and you may be able to quit using them entirely.
LASIK surgery has proven to be a minimum-pain, maximum-gain solution for millions of people — and it can be your solution, too. Call today for an appointment, and start seeing things as they really are.
